Highly Commended at prestigious HSJ Partnership Awards

30 June 2021

The 33n, Brunel University and Health Education England partnership have been Highly Commended for the Regional COVID-19 Response Partnership Award at the HSJ Partnership Awards 2021.

Following an extensive judging process, undertaken by a wide range of well-respected figures from across the UK healthcare community, the COVID-19 Intensive Care Remote Learning Course (CIRLC), developed by the three partners, has been Highly Commended for this prestigious award in recognition of their outstanding contribution to healthcare over what has been a difficult and challenging 15 months in the sector.

CIRLC, which was devised in just one week, prepared over 2,500 NHS staff for redeployment to intensive care units in close to 200 organisations throughout the surges. In the first wave of COVID-19, CIRLC offered the course free of charge to NHS trusts with the course creators, 33n and Brunel University, taking no financial gains with tutors recruited on a volunteer basis.

CIRLC was developed by clinicians and tutors from the National CLEAR Programme, an innovation programme sponsored by Health Education England (HEE) and delivered by 33n. Colleagues from the National CLEAR Programme were able to repurpose their knowledge to cater for the need to support the thousands of NHS staff who were being redeployed to intensive care units across the country. The team at 33n and Brunel University were able to develop a national multidisciplinary training programme to respond quickly to the up-skilling need.

On being awarded this accolade, Dr Alex Monkhouse, 33n Director and Director of Delivery for the National CLEAR Programme comments,

“We are absolutely delighted to have been Highly Commended in the Regional COVID-19 Response Partnership Award. It means a great deal to all our team to be recognised in this way and we’re confident that the positive impact of this commendation will help to create a long-lasting legacy.”

Said Dr Eve Corner, Lecturer in Physiotherapy at Brunel University;

“This award will provide a tremendous boost to the hundreds of tutors who volunteered their time for the success of CIRLC. This was a huge team effort bringing together the unique skills of the private sector, NHS staff and higher education to deliver training to over 2,500 redeployed staff.”

The editor of the Health Service Journal and host of the awards evening, Alastair McLellan, offered his congratulations to the teams on their success,

“Following on from what has been an incredibly tough and testing time for so many aspects of our healthcare industry, it really was a huge honour to be involved in celebrating and applauding projects of such high calibre. We know that projects like the COVID-19 ICU Remote Learning Course are not alone in fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration in healthcare, I’d like to offer my congratulations to 33n, Brunel University and Health Education England on being Highly Commended for the Regional COVID-19 Response Partnership Award at this year’s HSJ Partnership Awards.”

Winners and those Highly Commended were announced during the first “in-person” awards ceremony to be held by the HSJ since the gradual easing Covid-19 restrictions. The evening celebrated the collaboration and innovation of private organisations and charities with the NHS at the Evolution London on 29th June.
